Hoax Viruses! Do Not Be Fooled

In plain English hoax means dupery or 'something intended to deceive; deliberate trickery intended to gain an advantage.' Well, let us see how does this definition apply to virus hoaxes and what are computer virus myths and hoaxes
that try to deceive us and play deliberate trickery. One definition of computer virus hoaxes is that they are the phony warning messages spread by pranksters to threaten or upset people of crashing or erasing their hard disks etc. This is the popular Good Times virus.

Another equally popular one sends out emails to Windows users to delete a particular file which was downloaded just then with complete deleting details. In fact the files they demand you to delete are essential files like sulfnbk.exe and jdbgmgr.exe. Unless you reinstalled these files again, you are in for a tough time with your Operating system.

What Are the Popular Hoaxes?

Both McAfee and Norton antivirus companies have listed over 100 popular computer virus hoaxes. Popularity of these hoaxes depends on how many times they are forwarded and how they get popularity. Since these are designs of sick and evil minds, they derive pleasure if it grows popular. You can measure this by some mail bodies which read like "…CNN has announced today that …" They give warning signals wherever necessary, but most of them are just pranks which are better neglected and deleted because they are hoaxes email viruses.

Some of the popular hoaxes are so well written that the recipient will be induced to believe the threats therein and get into action. But it is not wise for anyone to act on the instructions of a hoax message whose source you don't know. Here are some of the most popular ones among them.
