Is There A Way To Prevent Macro Virus?

Yes, of course. You must have noticed, when opening a file, in the status bar of the program that it is scanning for macros. This is when the Microsoft's auto protect feature is turned on, which it is by default.
The best protection you can get is by installing Microsoft's macro virus protection template which is downloadable from the company's download page.

But please mind, the scanner executes only when you open the files/documents by the normal File - Open dialog box way and not when you open the file by double clicking on its icon either in the windows explorer or on the desktop. The Macro virus template is easy to install by opening it within the application by file - open method and following the simple instruction. It installs just like the macro viruses do!

Disabling macros help by preventing the implant from executing whenever you launch that application which has macro implants. You may not be able to use friendly macros set by you but if you don't want this feature, disabling macros is your best option.

Is there a Way to Remove Macro Infection?

The best and the safest way recommended to remove macro viruses is to use an antivirus scanner. If you don't have it, get one from the net or from a local vender. Manually removing it by hand is not recommended as some of them are stubborn and don't get deleted at all.

If you have Microsoft macro protection gives you the option to remove macros, if it is installed. Alternately you can use the find and remove function control panel. If you accidentally open an infected file, don't quit the program or close the file in a hurry as this triggers the macro to auto execute other macros. What you can do better is to delete this macro and close the file and the program and relaunch it.

Apple Macro Virus

You can be relatively safe if you are using MAC OS and Word 6. Because the damaging codes are mostly written in DOS, it is not likely to work on you.
